One of my female het pieds has finally had eggs! Yesterday she had 4 nice sized eggs and I cannot wait for them to hatch!
She is wrapped about those eggs pretty tightly! She is such a good mother!
Pieds have long been one of my favorite mutations in the ball python world. I remember seeing the first one at a show 12 years ago with a $10,000.00 price tag. In my opinion they are the most visually intriguing morph because there is so much variability. In 2012 I was very lucky to hatch out my first pied! I bred a het to het and got 2 eggs…and one went bad during incubation. I was sure that I was going to wind up with a male 66% pos het.
But fortunately for me I struck gold, well Pied!
And this year I am expecting a total of 3 clutches that should yield pieds.
Below is a pic of my 2012 pied right after a fresh shed! He is almost 2 years old now and I can’t wait to have more like him this year. It will be a long 10 weeks until the eggs hatch!
This coming fall I plan to get the pied into the charcoal and ebony projects. Both would be equally spectacular. And depending how the sex ratio goes, I may be keeping all the pieds! I’m wishing they would all be females. It’s a shame that snakes do not appear to be TDSD, but that’s for another post though.
Make sure to check out the video below about the Pied to het Pied clutch of eggs that is incubating now!
